Even though I had never tested anything from the Hot Octopuss brand, I immediately loved them. Sometimes you just have that. The brand fits nicely with your own personality. This is also the case with Hot Octopuss. Their ‘campaign’ says “#ShowStigmaTheFinger”, giving a big raised finger to all kinds of stereotypes. They believe that the world would be a lot nicer if everyone had a good sex life, regardless of stigmas and taboos. Fuck homophobia, fuck age, fuck perfect bodies, fuck color, transphobia, or whatever tag you could place on people. Their products are for everyone. Without prejudices.
And if that doesn’t interest you at all, then their innovation certainly will. Hot Octopuss has not just started making sex toys. No, they started reinventing them. They go off the beaten track and won different prizes for their products with their rebellious attitude to industry in general and sexuality in particular.

SPOILER ALERT: I found it impossible not to orgasm with the Pulse Solo Essential!
What is a Pulse Solo Essential Masturbator?
Hot Octopuss does not call it a masturbator but a Guybrator. And that is perhaps a better word to indicate that it is a sex toy for people with a penis.
What makes this toy unique is the patented ‘PulsePlate Technology’. The bottom line is that you have to put the Pulse around your penis – it doesn’t even have to be erect – and the round plate will vibrate against the frenulum. It is not necessary to move the Pulse. Even the vibrations alone will give you an orgasm within a few minutes.
But of course you can also just add a big blob of water-based lubricant to move the thing back and forth and feel the vibrations along the entire shaft. The choice is yours.
The Pulse Solo Essential also has a few brothers (or sisters):
- The Pulse Solo Lux: Same as the Essential but with magnetic charging and a remote control. This also has a turbo mode for even more revs.
- The Pocket Pulse: A simpler version, also available with remote control.
- The Pulse III DUO: Vibrates also on the outside so that you can use it together. This has a remote control for her, to control the outer vibrations.
Specs & functions of the Pulse Solo Essential

The patented pulsed oscilator technology – PulsePlate – makes this Pulse rotate at a maximum of 3950 rpm. You can use 6 different positions, the first of which vibrates constantly. You can also set each pattern harder and softer with a + and – button. There are 8 speeds per pattern.
The design is particularly ergonomic. The buttons are exactly in the right place, so that you can choose the patterns with your thumb. You operate the + and – buttons with the index and middle fingers.
To charge the Pulse Solo, plug the USB cable into the Pulse. After 1.5 hours of charging you can play with it for around 40 minutes. In practice this will mean that you will have to charge it quite often.
The Pulse Solo Essential is finished with robust silicone. The dimensions are 67 mm wide, 106 mm long and 73 mm high. The thing weighs 187 grams.
Unboxing

The Pulse Solo Essential comes in a nice box with no-nonsense images of the product. On the lid is a picture of a cool hipster with ditto tattoos to make it clear that this product is for real men. Or at least for people with a penis.
In addition to the Guybrator and the charging cord, the box also contains a simple manual and a warranty booklet (there is a 1-year warranty on this product). Moreover – and that always makes me very happy – there is also a storage bag included.
The ‘test drive’
The design of the Pulse does not immediately reveal that you are dealing with a sex toy here. It all looks pretty discreet.
The battery is already charged and ready for use right out of the box. I like that. Who wants to wait 1.5 hours before you can test a new toy?

If you hold down the on / off button for a few seconds, the thing starts to vibrate. Oh, wow! Those are pretty strong vibrations! But wait, he can go even faster. What, faster than this? That is promising!
The flaps that go around the penis are pretty rigid. At first I thought that was not very useful, but retrospectively I understand that that is a good thing. You can also use it hands-free because of this feature.
One of the promises Hot Octopuss makes is that you can also use this thing without erection and without lubricant. So I tried that first. A little bit of power is needed to operate the buttons. It is not that they already respond with the slightest touch. But the Pulse is comfortable to hold and the buttons are exactly in the right place.
As soon as you switch on the pulse you not only feel the wonderful vibrations against the frenulum (that sensitive triangle of the glans), but you are also startled by a lot of sound. If you are looking for a quiet device, then this is definitely not for you! Especially if you want to use it in the bathroom, it can echo considerably.
The vibrations are wonderfully deep and therefore it didn’t take long before my erection rose. It took only a few minutes in this way (without lubricant and without too much exercise) to come to a wonderful orgasm. I was deeply impressed.
Then of course I tried the device a few more times. With lubricant, with different patterns. And each time it took just a few minutes to experience an intense orgasm. I personally like the constant vibrations more, but the patterns made it easier to last a little longer.
Cleaning
The Pulse not only has all sorts of ridges and edges on the inside, but there are also edges around the buttons on the outside that can make it difficult to properly clean this thing. The Hot Octopuss logo is also embossed with bold lettering. In the long run, dirt could get stuck between them.
Fortunately, you can simply clean the Pulse under the tap or in a bath of water. Use a washcloth or cloth to wipe it clean. You can also use some mild soap or toy cleaner.
Conclusion
The Pulse Solo Essential is a unique device with a very smart design. The vibrating plate is exactly in the right place. Whether you are already excited or starting from scratch; it is almost impossible not to orgasm with this device.
The only drawback is the noise. If your living situation does not allow you to use a toy that makes a lot of noise, then this thing is not for you. Other than that, I can only say that this is a great thing that its money is more than worth it. Do you have a penis? Then you should actually own a Pulse Solo!
The PROS of the Pulse Solo Essential Masturbator:
