Women and men get as turned on when they watch erotic or sexual images, new recent research shows.
The general idea is that men get aroused more easy by watching porn than women. But according to research conducted by scientists of the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics in Tübingen, Germany, the gender of the person is irrelevant when it comes to their response on ‘erotic visual stimuli’.
For this research, that was published in the scientific magazine PNAS, data of 61 neuro-imaging studies was compared. In this type of studies, brain activity is measured.
The team analysed brain images of 1,850 persons, that have been presented ‘erotic visual stimuli’. Their conclusion is that the human brain responses in the same way, irrespective of the gender of the individual.
Until now, it was assumed that erotic images would give different responses with men and women. Men would react stronger to these than women.
The scientists think that this assumption comes from the behavior of men. They watch porn more often than women. “About 80% of porn site visitors is male”, says Hamid Noori, researcher on the Department of Physiology of Cognitive Processes at the Max Planck Institute.
While comparing the brain images it became clear which areas of the brain responded significantly to porn. This showed, in contrast to other research, that men respond the same as women.
