A story circulated on X last month that a drunken British girl had allegedly entered a gloryhole establishment on the Red Light District in Amsterdam, where a group of men were having a stag night. It seemed hilarious to her to blow an unknown man. Then she decided to press the button so she could see the man in the darkened booth, only to discover it was her father. The story went viral after the girl in question posted a voice message detailing the fateful story.
The viral message
“The singles all went home early because it was so traumatic,” the girl says on the voicenote. “The girl broke up with her whole family, the mother obviously found out and doesn’t talk to the father anymore.”

The post has now been viewed more than 26 million times on X. It was also picked up by the British press. But is it true?
Gloryholes in Amsterdam
Vice went to investigate and discovered what any Amsterdammer could have already told them, namely that there are only 4 gloryhole tents in Amsterdam and they cater exclusively to (gay) men. Not exactly tents you go to with a bachelor party. The only ‘cinema’ that does allow women is Le Salon on the Nieuwendijk. But when asked if there are buttons to reveal the person on the other side of the gloryhole, the answer was unsurprisingly “no, there are only holes, no buttons.”
