Natalie Krim comes from an artistic family from Los Angeles. As a result, she views the world in an artistic way. Her grandfather was a fashion photographer in Hollywood’s 1940s. Her mother was a fashion illustrator in L.A. For Krim and her brother, art quickly became a means of communication.
Good erotic art should evoke an emotional response, as with any art form. It must arise from reality or an intense fantasy, but never just naked just because it can. It can lead to a connection, but it can also be uncomfortable at times.
It was not a conscious choice to make erotic art. Maybe it came from her love for lingerie and vintage erotica? But it was probably more of an obsession to try to understand how intimacy and sexual dynamics work.
Her inspiration comes from powerful women in history and in politics, and the women in her life. Furthermore, her inspiration comes from the desire to keep growing in all kinds of areas. And her partners and her curiosity.
In the beginning there was quite a strong reaction to her work, both positive and negative. The world has since changed, especially due to social media. It is also more accepted that women make sexually charged art.
