Do you know that feeling, when you just bought a sex toy, that it just isn’t exactly what you were looking for? That you would rather have an extra bulb or nodge here, and a more crooked curve there? The Dodil seems to be the answer for that, because you can reshape The Dodil to your liking. I was immediately enthusiastic about the concept, so I enjoyed the opportunity to work with it. This is what I experienced.
What is The Dodil?
The name is somewhat confusing. It’s officially called ‘The Dodil‘ and that would mean that I would have to mention it like the ‘The Dodil’, but that would be kinda double, so I will just name it the Dodil. Anyways… The name is a reshape of the word dildo, which is clever.
The Dodil is a dildo that can be reshaped. The concept is simple. You heat up the Dodil by placing it in the provided thermos, and poor hot water (70 degrees centigrade) on it. Wait for about 30 minutes and then you have about 30 minutes to mold it in any shape you like. Then let it cool down and use it as a regular dildo. Great idea, right? From now on you can determine where you want the curves and bulges to be! And if your design doesn’t suit you, just put it back in the thermos and start over.
The outer layer of the Dodil is made of body safe silicone. It feels soft and tender. It’s not exactly clear what’s in the inside, but the manufacturer claims it is completely safe. When the Dodil is solidified, it is hard as steel, but with a soft silicone layer. If you prefer a softer dildo, you can reheat it for 5 minutes in warm water. Not only will it be slightly softer, it will also be nice and warm.
Creative DIY-ing
I just think the whole idea behind The Dodil is truly bril-fucking-lant! The execution? Meh. Perhaps it’s because I’m just not such a DIY-er and sculpting is not my cup of tea. Neither is patience. Let me take you on my journey:
The Dodil is shipped with a thermos and a clear instruction booklet. Also there’s some kind of strap, with which you can make ridges in the malleable part.
- First of all you have to heat up some water (which I did in a water boiler). That took me about 5 minutes.
- Poor the water in the thermos and add the Dodil. Then wait for about 30 minutes.
- Get the Dodil out of the thermos, but – ouch ouch ouch – that is hot! You really have to wait a few minutes before you can start sculpting.
- The first shape I created was a little … how shall I call it? … ambitious. The bulbs and bumps were just a little too much. After little under 20 minutes the thing is solidifying. I did try to play with it, but it just wouldn’t work.
- Back to step 1. Heat up water (5 minutes), thermos (30 minutes), remove (again: ouch), wait, sculpt. Now I decided to make a less ambitious shape, with a bulb on the top and some ridges (for which I used the strap).
- Again, wait until it has cooled down. Yes! This shape is much better. The Dodil feels soft and it fitted great inside me. I used a mini vibrator on my clit, because I felt like stimulating myself that way. Hooray! There it was: my first orgasm with the Dodil.
So in short, it took me an entire afternoon to handicraft (not my hobby) to finally have a ‘happy end’ (is my hobby).
My opinion
The concept of The Dodil is fantastic. Finally you can make a dildo that is completely like you want it to be. The material is great and the possibilities are endless.
But, you have to figure out what shape works best. I did some googling and I found stories of women that restarted 4 or even 5 times before they had the shape right. They made some real monsters of craft projects (what were they even thinking?).
When I am in the mood for sex, I don’t want to be crafting my dildo for an hour or so. You’d have to mold it when it’s hot, but you better not start to mold when you are hot. You have to do some experimenting to find the right shape (for you). I did some rework on mine a couple of times, and sometimes I felt like having a brilliant design, but it didn’t work at all.
So, The Dodil is great for creative persons, that like to create their own dildo by trial-and-error. It may be less suited for women with little patience or endurance. But once you’ve made something that works, it really works!
Oh, and the people from Dodil warn you that when you want to use it for anal (what I think is challenging with its girth), you need to create some kind of stop. They mean that toys for anal use should not be able to slip in entirely. The only way to do that is to create a 90 degree curve near the end at the base.
The Dodil is available in a version with thermos (€79,95) and one without, for I guess when you want two different dildos but you already have a thermos (€59,95).
