There are more and more sex toys that can be controlled remotely in one way or another. Remote-controlled sex toys are not only convenient for yourself. After all, you don’t have to control the toy directly. But they also make it possible to literally hand over control to your partner.

Hand over control

Roughly speaking, four types of remote controlled sex toys can be distinguished:

1. Wired remote control. This is the most primitive way to control your toy remotely. The remote control is attached to the toy by a wire. This has the advantage that the operation is optimal (you don’t suffer from interference and you can’t be hacked either), but you are stuck with a wire. A wire that, moreover, is often only very short. These kinds of remotes are actually especially nice if you want to control the toy yourself, without having to reach between your legs to do so.
2. Wireless remote control. These kinds of toys generally work in the same way your TV remote works: The remote makes contact with the toy via radio frequency. As a result, you have to be within – roughly – 3 to 10 metres of the toy. Preferably at least in the same room. However, radio-frequency signals can be disturbed (depending on the frequency) by moisture and metal. As a result, your body may block the signals (your body consists of 60% water).
3. Bluetooth. Other toys have the ability to be connected to your smartphone, through bluetooth. This usually requires you to download an app that allows you to control the toy. These apps usually have many more options than your toy itself. Sometimes you even have the option of programming vibration patterns, for example.
4. Bluetooth combined with wifi or 4G. One step further are toys that not only connect with your smartphone, but also have the ability to connect (via wifi or 4G) with someone else. That person could be anywhere in the world. After you give permission, that person can then control your sex toy via their smartphone. In some cases, that person may also have connected a sex toy, allowing you to experience each other’s movements (so-called ‘teledildonics’).

Remote control sex toys are great when masturbating together, or during foreplay. Your partner can initiate play at completely unexpected moments (hello home workers!).
