Sex education in schools usually focuses exclusively on the technical side of producting offspring. Rarely is there any focus on kink or BDSM, while that is a facet of sexuality that is used by many people. Maybe that’s why Kyoto University gave a live demonstration of Japanese bondage (shibari).
Shibari / kinbaku goes viral
The event quickly went viral as visitors shared photos online in Japan. Not in the least because of the preposterous idea that a renowned university was publicly expressing a sexual subculture. The Kyoto University is one of the most prestigious universities and is certainly one of the top 3 in the country.
The demonstration was part of a free kinbaku (shibari) symposium organized by part of the Kyoto Initiatives for the Humanities and Social Sciences, on October 24, 2020 in a lecture hall of the university’s faculty of arts.
The symposium was organized because shibari (also known as kinbaku) “transforms itself into a new trend of contemporary art”. The guest speaker line-up included Hajime Kinoko, a leading figure in the shibari scene. The symposium was also streamed live, including the video below in which you see model Aimi.
