Women and men. The world is nowhere near as equal as we would like. In general, women are paid less well (pay gap), there is less attention for their health (health gap) and they cum less easily and less often (orgasm gap). However, according to Womanizer, there is another big difference: men masturbate much more often than women. And that’s why Womanizer is proclaiming September 5th as ‘Equal Masturbation Day’!
The gap is 68%
The WOW-Tech Group – the sex toy company behind Womanizer – conducted research in 12 countries among 6,000 men and women. This showed that the ‘masturbation gap’ is 68%. That means that men masturbate about 154 times a year and women only 49 times. About 35% of the women reported never to masturbate. This is about 18% in men.
5 september is ‘Global Equal Masturbation Day’ #EMD
Womanizer thinks it is time to make that gap smaller. That is why men shouldn’t masturbate less, but women much more!
They choose September 5, because they calculated that if women – on average – would masturbate as often as men, they would not start until September, 5th. They follow somewhat the same logic as with the income difference. Because women are said to work for about 77 days a year for free because they have a lower salary than men. I don’t quite follow the reasoning, but they explain it in this video:
Why do women masturbate less?
Often stereotypes and outdated clichés follow this question. For example, women would simply have less desire for sex than men. However, this turns out not to be true at all. Womanizer’s research shows that men give their sex drive a 6.8 and women a 6 on a scale of 1 to 10.
Women masturbate less out of shame or stigmatization. Due to a lack of sex education, they are less used to exploring their own sexuality. When asked why women masturbate less often, these women say, for example, that they do not need it (38%), that they do not have time (13%), that they are too tired (10%), or that they do not have enough privacy (8%).
Contradiction
Still, something crazy is going on. Because the survey shows that four out of 10 respondents think it is more okay for women to use sex toys than for men, while only 6% say that it is acceptable for women to masturbate.
Equal Masturbation Day is to remind women that they literally have masturbation inequality in their own hands
Masturbate? Why should you?
Of course, the main reason for masturbating is just to have a great orgasm. For that reason alone you should do it.
But if you do, know that by masturbating you also get to know your own body. This allows you to better explain (or show) your partner what you like. And because all kinds of hormones are released, it is also healthy. It also reduces stress because endorphins are released.
