There is scientific proof, that sex is good for us in more than one way. It prevents incontinence, it reduces stress levels, it decreases the chances on a depression, you will likely catch a cold less frequently, it reduces pain because of the release of oxytocin, it is even good for your teeth (sperm contains zink) and it improves the functioning of the prostate. And, oh right, you burn some calories along the way too. Research also shows that men who orgasm more often, have lower mortality rates. You’d almost forget that seks is such a big pleasure. Recent scientific research now shows that on top of all this, men who have more sex have a lower risk of a heart attack.
Long term research among 1,165 men, aging 40 to 70 year, has studied the frequency of sexual activities and their overall health during 16 years. The conclusion was that men who have seks more often, have a reduced risk for cardiovascular disease later on. In fact, men who have sex just once a month or even less, have a 45% higher risk on cardiovascular disease than men who have sex 2 to 3 times a week or more often.
It’s important to notice that this relation is shown while the researchers also took into account age, erectile dysfunction, and overall risks on cardiovascular diseases (like smoking habits, cholesterol levels, diabetes, etc.). This might tell us that sexual activities have a special influence on the reduced risk.
It might be that men who have a more healthy lifestyle also have a better sex life. But probably there’s more to it. Seks is an important way of exercising that also burns calories. Frequent sexual activity therefor means a regular exercise, which has a positive effect to your health. On top of that, sex reduces stress, which also improves your health.
