If partners give each other an intimate massage, it can quickly lead to sex. But what should you look out for when you use massage oil? Can you also use massage oil as a lubricant? We at NBRplaza figured it out for you.
Massage oil and vulvas
It is not advisable to use massage oil on or between labia and certainly not in the vagina. A lot of massage oils contain essential oils and fragrances. Many women suffer from irritation or may even get a fungal infection from these substances.
Massage oil and condoms
In addition, there is a good chance that the oil in massage products will affect condoms. This allows the condom to tear easily. Research has shown that a condom can rupture even if it has been exposed to oil for less than 60 seconds.
Lube as massage oil?
So it is not a good idea to use a massage oil as a lubricant. But what about the other way around? Can you use a lubricant as a massage oil?
The answer to that is actually ‘no’. Most water-based lubricants contain glycerin, which becomes very sticky if you apply it to the skin. That’s why you should look for water-based lubricant without glycerin. The disadvantage of water-based lubricant without glycerine, however, is that it dries very quickly.
You can of course use a silicone-based lubricant as a massage oil. That works great, does not dry up quickly and stays smooth for a long time. The only drawback is that it stains your bedding quickly and that you have to wash it off because it does not penetrate the skin.
The solution: 2 in 1 products
There are actually two solutions. First, you can of course simply use two different products; a massage oil for the body, and a lubricant for the genitals. Keep a (damp) cloth at hand to wipe your hands in between.
But the best solution is to use a 2 in 1 combination product. There are various lubricants on the market that can also be used as massage oil.
Durex has a whole range of Durex Play 2 in 1 products. The Durex Play massage oil and lubricant in one is perfect to use for a massage. Durex Play is made on a water basis, is condom-friendly and doesn’t stain.
There is a Durex Play 2 in 1 Aloe Vera, that is odorless and flavorless. Further more there is also Durex Play 2 in 1 Ylang Ylang with a soft and fresh odor and a lovely taste and the stimulating Durex Play 2 in 1 Guarana.
The BodyGlide massage oil and lube from Coolman is also perfect for an exciting foreplay and everything that might come after that. It is suitable for an erotic or full body massage, but is also great as a personal lube.
With this lubricant you will experience the pleasure of sexual intercourse even more intensively. The BodyGlide from CoolMann is dermatologically tested and does not stick or dry. Because the product is water-based. It is safe to use in combination with condoms and sex toys.
The Massage & Glide gel ‘silky touch’ from Shiatsu is a high quality and multi-functional products, as the other products on this page; you can use it both as a personal lube and as a massage gel.
It is a biological water-based gel that does not stick or dry quickly during use. Because it is a water-based gel, you can also use it in combination with (latex) condoms. In addition, it has a nourishing and caring effect on the skin. The 2 in 1 Gel comes in a handy tube making it durable to use. Shiatsu also has a 2 in 1 variant with strawberry flavor, raspberry flavor and one with the scent of Amber.
Aquaglide 2 in 1 is a massage and lubricant in one – perfect for use on the entire body. This odor-free ‘all-rounder’ combines long-lasting massage pleasure with effective intimate lubrication.
It has an optimum pH value that provides the skin with moisture without irritating. The lubricant is non-greasy and non-sticky and of course fully compatible with latex condoms. It is soluble in water and does not stain on clothing, sheets or skin.
HOT BIO 2 in 1 is a biological and vegan massage lubricant that provides more comfort during intimate massages. The water-based lubricant is especially for sensitive skin, feels wonderfully smooth and is safe to use with sex toys.
It contains Carrageenan which makes it stay smooth for a long time. In addition, this biological lubricant is in an eco-tube for carefree enjoyment, even after your massage.
Cobeco also has a Nori lube and en massage-gel in one. Nori has the unique properties of a silicone-based gel but is water-based.
Nori offers the best of both, for a unique, smooth and slippery experience. Nori massage gel has moisturizing properties and is ideal for body-to-body massages and sexual intercourse. The sensual Nori massage + lubricant gel is easy to rinse off with water after use and no stains on your sheets.
Our own favorite is Pjur ORIGINAL Bodyglide. This is a high quality multiple use (3-in-1) massage product.
