Sometimes there are innovations where you don’t have an immediate clear picture. The new iroha petit ‘disposable pleasure items’ is a good example. I was very curious and fortunately iroha offered me to test all three variants.
What is iroha petit?
iroha is an innovative brand from the Japanese company Tenga. They are known for having a specific vision when it comes to sex and intimacy. They approach it from a philosophy of life, which focuses on healthy living and taking good care of yourself. Sex is natural and important for a healthy life. Where brother Tenga focuses on individuals with a penis, iroha focuses on individuals with a vulva.
The three iroha petit products are specifically designed for people who would not normally buy a vibrator or a dildo or anything like that. It is a product that is made for single use and that makes this product unique. Tenga has been making disposable products for ages, such as the Tenga Egg or the Tenga Pocket. But for individuals with a vulva, there was not yet a disposable product to masturbate with.
The iroha petit is made of 98% water. This sex toy – because in the end, that’s just what it is – is not made of rubber or silicone. A key ingredient in the iroha petit is agar. Kitchen princesses know agar is a kind of gelatin, which you can use to stiffen food. Whereas gelatin is an animal product, agar is purely vegetable – made from algae – and therefore also suitable for vegans. Because the iroha petit is water-based, you can also refrigerate the product, or heat it in bath water for an added sensation.
Unboxing the iroha petit
Not surprisingly, the iroha petit is very small (36mm x 56mm). I was sent all three variants to try. Each one is packaged in a paper wrapper. And when you take that paper off (and recycle it), what you’re left with is a cup that looks a bit like a large out of shape coffee cup.
I unwrapped the cup of the iroha petit ‘plum’ for you.
On the lid of the ‘cup’ there is a drawing showing what to do. First of all, you have to pull the lid off. That is very easy. The product is in a puddle of water. Well, water … it doesn’t smell like water. It’s water that has had a few things added to it (moisturizer, preservative, perfume). For that reason, I would not recommend using this product internally, but fortunately it is not suitable for that at all.
Now turn the cup over so that the liquid flows over your hand and the product lands on your hand. Voila, you are ready to go!
Taking the iroha petit plum for a testdrive
The iroha petit plum is actually a heap of hardened water in a mold, with a plastic ‘H’ shaped foot underneath. You can clamp the base between your fingers. And then you can move the jelly mould over your skin.
And it really feels very nice! It’s soft, fresh, massaging … The agar jelly is firm enough to massage with, but soft enough to feel nice. It’s also nice to massage your face with, for example. Because it comes from fluids, it is not necessary to use lubricant. The shape and material makes masturbating (over the clitoris for her, or the glans for me) with the iroha petit really different from using just your fingers.
I do understand why iroha says that this toy is meant for single use. Of course, you could clean it and store it again in the freezer (not in the fridge, as I think it could spoil after 2-3 days). The iroha petit is so soft that you can easily damage it. With your nail, for example, you quickly make a cut in it. My advice would therefore be to indeed throw it away after use.
Conclusion
This is really a surprising and innovative concept. The price and shape make it approachable for people who don’t buy sex toys easily. This is typically a product that could be purchased at the drugstore (but unfortunately it is not).
It’s fun, intimate and very tantric. Don’t expect overwhelming toe-curling orgasms, but just that little bit different.
What I do think is a significant downside is the addition of some ingredients to the moisture. I understand that from a hygiene and shelf life point of view and it will all fit within the rules of cosmetics legislation as well. However, those rules are not designed with intimate parts of the body in mind. Therefore, try it out carefully first. Should you have an allergic reaction or be sensitive to any of these ingredients, rinse yourself well under running water.
