Due to the corona virus, the production of sex toys in China has almost stopped. A large part of the sex toys are produced in China. But many factories are currently closed due to the corona virus. EDC Retail (the Dutch company behind, among others, Easytoys and Beate Uhse) tells a Dutch national newspaper that no less than two-thirds of production and supplies are on hold.
“If the coronavirus is not quickly contained, a shortage of sex toys will arise in April,” says CEO Eric Idema of EDC Retail. EDC has their private label products produced in China, among others. In a factory in Dongguang, only about fifteen of the fifty employees are working. As a result, the company is lagging far behind in the production schedule.
Not only the production of sex toys, but also of materials and packaging is stagnating. Idema expects that sex toys might become more expensive due to the scarcity.
