Fleshlight has become an established concept, when sex toys for persons with a penis are concerned. In 1998 Steve Shubin filed a patent for his invention: A plastic holder in the shape of a flashlight (hence the name), containing a ‘sleeve’ of a material that feels like real skin (flesh). Now, over 20 years later, there are numerous variants of this company, all with the same principle, but each time with a different sleeve.Some are even sculpted after well known porn stars.

EasyToys asked me to test the Fleshlight Stamina Training Unit in exchange for an honest review. And yes, I was more than happy to do that.

What does Fleshlight mean with ‘stamina training’?

Stamina means endurance. According to the packaging, every man knows that in order to improve in any skill, you need to train. The stamina Training Unit (STU) is not meant to just masturbate, but to improve your sexual stamina while you do that. What? Masturbating to last longer in bed? Really?

But if you think about it, it might not be so strange. When you do something more often, it will become less exciting. The STU mimics sex with a partner. So the idea is that when you stimulate yourself with the STU, you will be less tensed when you do it ‘for real’.

Unboxing

The Fleshlight Stamina Training Unit comes in a carton box with a see through window. The golden letters on the package gives it a bit of a glamorous appeal. 

On the backside of the box, there is an image of a cross section of the STU, which should give you some impression of the sensations you might expect when you will use it. 

Besides of the Fleshlight STU, the package also contains a manual with color photo’s and a small bag of personal water based lube, that is sufficient for one time use.

The Fleslight is actually a hard plastic container, that holds a sleeve of Fleshlight’s patented ‘Superskin’ material.

Superskin is a brandname of Fleshlight for the material that the sleeve is made of. It is a super soft material that  feels like actual human skin. It doesn’t contain latex, so it is safe for people with an allergy. It also adopts temperature, and therefore feels nice and warm. 

Superskin is a porous material, however, and that means you have to clean it thoroughly after use, to prevent bacteria to grow. The exact compounds of Superskin is a secret and a bit of a mystery, but we do know that it contains silicone, which makes it suitable for water based lube only. 

When you remove the cap, the entrance of the Fleshlight becomes visible. In this case, it is sculpted like a vagina.

Watch out! The sleeve contains a hard tube, that is placed to prevent the sleeve from adhering. Remove the tube before use, but keep it, because you want to use it before you store it again.

 

The material of the sleeve is extremely flexible and with a little effort you will be able to turn it inside out. That is handy when you want to clean it, unless you want to use a condom.

The ‘test drive’

It might not be everybody’s taste, an opening that looks like a little cunt (excusez le mot). Personally, I am not a big fan of ‘realistic’ sex toys. I don’t want vibrators or dildos to look like a penis, and my masturbator doesn’t need to look like a vagina (or anus for that matter). I prefer my masturbators to have a design that is less realistic, like the Fleshlight Go Torque. Especially when you use your toys together with your partner – and why wouldn’t you use a masturbator together with your partner – a realistic design might be distracting. But that is just my opinion.

Further more, the STU has a hint of a strange smell. Not disturbing, not in your face present, but just strange. I suspect it is caused by the renewing powder that was applied in the factory.

Above that, I am also a bit skeptical about the whole ‘stamina’ thing. Come on! It’s just a masturbator. Cut the marketing crap. Just use the thing what it is designed for: jerking of and have an orgasm. Preferably as fast as possible. What is it with endurance and training?

The sachet with lube that was in the package is just enough for one time (first time) use. I applied it in and around the opening.

What makes the Fleshlight unique, is that there is actually a small hole in the bottom of the sleeve. By penetrating the sleeve, you will press all air out and when you withdraw you will experience a little suction. The sleeve of the STU is very narrow. That, combined with the soft material, the lube and the bumps on the inside that feel like a dozen of fingertips touching your penis, ensure that you will come within two minutes. At least, I did.

But can you actually train your stamina with this thing? I guess it all depends on your own personal discipline every time you use the STU. When you ask me, I’d say you could achieve that with any sex toy. You don’t necessarily need the STU for that. It might work for men that have premature ejaculations and are afraid they will shoot their load too soon with their partner? I actually have no idea. But that doesn’t make the feeling less awesome.

Cleaning and maintenance

After using the Fleshlight, you retrieve the sleeve from the container and turn it inside out. Don’t be scared, you can’t break it. Just rinse under running hand warm water and let it to dry inside out, or dry it with a cloth . When you really want to take good care of your purchase, you should buy some renewing powder. Apply it on the sleeve when it is still inside out. Then turn it back and dry the outside as well. Now you can place the sleeve in the container again. Push the tube back in to prevent the sleeve from getting sticky. Cap back on and ready to go for your next experience.

Conclusion

I really love the Fleshlight. It is one of the best masturbators around and that has everything to do with the material and the shape. Does it help in improving your stamina? I haven’t got a clue. But it feels damn great to stimulate yourself with this toy.

This version comes in a golden container and a realistic vagina design. It might not be everybodies taste (certainly not mine). Fortunately, there are many many different Fleshlight designs, so there must be one that appeals to you.
