Cling film for bondage
Cling film; almost everyone has it at home. You can just buy it at the local supermarket. And this handy household helper is extremely effective for bondage. But how do you use it and what should you pay attention to when using cling film for kinky purposes?
Why cling film for bondage?

When you think of bondage, all kinds of ropes and cuffs may first come to mind. But there are countless reasons to give cling film a try. One of the nicest things about bondage with cling film is that you don’t have to be skilled at tying knots. You also have to worry much less about pressure points or pinching nerves. Especially if you are inexperienced in bondage, cling film is very easy to use. Anyone can do it.
In addition, it is widely available. Any grocery store or household goods store will sell it. You don’t have to go to a shady sex shop or a store with fetish items. And anyone who sees a box of cling film in your house will find it completely normal.
But what is especially nice about cling film for bondage is that it fixes someone pretty well. If you put a wrist cuff on someone, they can often still move their arms and elbows, because the arm is only fixed at one point. Bondage with cling film, however, is more like mummification. You can fix limbs so that the person can really no longer move. Or – depending on your personal preference – you can wrap someone’s entire body in plastic.

Not only can you wrap the body in cling film, you can also simply secure someone to a chair, for example, or tie the wrists to the bed. Or, if you happen to have one at home, you can completely tie someone to a St. Andrew’s cross (just to name a few). And you can also easily wrap a wand vibrator in the bondage. In short, the possibilities are endless.
And finally, cling film is transparent. Even after you have wrapped your partner in foil, his or her body is still visible.
Why not use cling film?
Of course there are also disadvantages to the use of cling film. To begin with, there is the environment. Cling film is made of plastic and you use large amounts of it in bondage play. The foil cannot then be reused, so all that plastic ends up on the waste pile.
And because you can’t reuse it, the costs can add up. A roll of private label cling film from Albert Heijn only costs € 0.80 per 50 meters, but you’d prefer a roll of 300 meters with a cutting system (available at wholesalers and some Asian shops) and those are about € 10 to € 15 lost per roll. No shocking amounts, but over time it is more expensive than bondage rope (10 meters for less than 20 euros).
Tying someone up with cling film is not a quick process. It can easily take up to 30 minutes to fully wrap someone. Loosening also takes time. If you like a lot of variety, (leather) cuffs with Velcro are a faster alternative.
What’s nice about cling film for bondage?

By letting yourself be fastened with cling film, you give complete control to someone else. Thus, if you like that, you can enjoy the resulting feeling of helplessness.
You thereby also give up all sexual control. It can be liberating to enjoy sex without guilt.
Bondage with cling film can also be a form of sensory deprivation. This can ensure that the sub can ‘float’ in a warm, empty space. The tight sheaths can create a womb-like environment in which a person can feel safe and relaxed.
Furthermore, this form of bondage can involve different levels of humiliation – either through the act itself, by exposing the genitals, or by verbal humiliation.
Safety first

Anyone who is healthy in body and limb can use cling film for bondage. Of course it is important that – just like with all forms of BDSM – you first communicate well with your partner before you start. Once you are wrapped in cling film, it is literally impossible to move or escape. So only do it with someone you trust completely and not with any random person on the first date.
Also, if you are claustrophobic or are afraid that something will happen that you don’t want, it is not wise to give in to this form of bondage. Furthermore, you have to take into account that you can get quite warm. And if you have problems with blood circulation, it is wise not to apply the cling film too tightly.
Whatever you do, never leave the tied person alone. Make sure to monitor how the tied person is doing at all times. To be on the safe side always have safety scissors (with blunt point) at hand to be able to free someone quickly, for example if he or she has a panic attack. Also provide a blanket. The temperature can rise considerably under the foil, so if someone is freed they can get very cold just like that.
Limit the amount of time someone is wrapped in plastic. The person may sweat a lot and the body can dry out. Plastic wrap bondage is not something that you do for hours and hours in a row, always use common sense!
What do you need?

In addition to a willing partner who agrees to this form of bondage, the necessary knowledge and a portion of common sense, you need – tadaa – cling film.
And quite a lot. The amount needed obviously depends on how much of the body you want to fix. For a ‘full body mummification’ you will need 6 rolls of cling film of 50 meters, or a roll of 300 meters. If you only want to secure the arms or legs, then 1 or 2 rolls of the local supermarket is sufficient.
The disadvantage of the cling film that you buy at the supermarket is that it is only 30 cm wide. That is why more advanced ‘cling film wrappers’ prefer shrink film that is used to wrap boxes or pallets. Such film is available in all kinds of widths and sometimes also with handy applicators. Google is your friend in this. For beginners, the supermarket version is the cheapest and most convenient, before switching to a 2-meter-wide roll …
Alternatives to cling film

If you quickly suffer from overheating, there are also alternative bondage resources that ‘breathe’ better. Consider, for example, gauze bandages. However, this is much more expensive and also a bit more difficult to use. Medical bandages are often also stretchable and therefore excellent for mummification.
Duct tape is an extremely strong and inexpensive adhesive tape that you can buy at DIY stores. However, it is extremely sticky and can therefore damage the skin when you remove it.
Bondage tape is also available. This is a safe type of ‘adhesive tape’ that does not stick to the skin (only the tape itself). It is reusable, washable and therefore efficient. Bondage tape is also a bit more difficult to use, especially for beginners and just like foil it does not breathe.
How do you use cling film for bondage?

This is honestly the simplest form of bondage. Place the beginning of the foil on the body part you want to secure, then wrap the foil around it as often as necessary. It doesn’t get any more difficult than that.
Usually you have to have a few layers of foil to really secure someone. The foil needs to be tight enough to give someone the bondage experience, but not so tight that it becomes uncomfortable. After all, you don’t want to impede blood circulation. To achieve that, you should not pull too hard on the foil. Especially around the chest you don’t want to put it too tight, because the person must still be able to breathe. Therefore, regularly ask your partner how it feels and whether it is not too tight.
The person being detained should wear as little clothing as possible. Nude is best, but tight-fitting underwear is fine. Remember that you have to cut the foil and that could damage any clothing.
After the session, cut the cling film with your safety scissors. Massage the released body parts to get blood circulation back and to prevent any stiff muscles. Also, put a blanket on the sub to prevent him or her from getting cold.
Different forms of bondage with cling film
You can go in all sorts of directions with cling film. For example, you can wrap the body and hips, leaving the arms free. The foil is then a kind of fetish clothing. You can then use the safety scissors to cut away pieces of foil, for example at the nipples and genitals.
You can also join the legs together from the knees down. As a result, your partner cannot leave while you enjoy their body. You can also attach arms and legs to, for example, chair or table legs or other objects.
You can also wrap the entire body with foil (full body mummification). This is the most intense form of bondage with foil, without any possibility for the sub to free him- or herself. For full body mummification you first secure the arms and legs and then the rest of the body. Always leave room for the sub to breathe.
How do you make the experience even more intense?
If you are going to wrap the sub in foil, you can also consider putting on a blindfold and putting in earplugs before applying the foil. Because vision and hearing are limited, other senses will be strengthened.
If you are looking for an aesthetic form of bondage with cling film, apply a thin layer and ‘decorate’ it with strips of Duct tape or colored tape. The layer of foil also prevents the tape from sticking to the skin.
Some final notes
- Go to the toilet beforehand.
- First remove all jewelry that could damage the foil or the sub itself, or that could pinch.
- Body parts that can hinge (knees, elbows) need a little more layers, so that the foil stays in place.
- First put foil around one arm and only then attach it to the other arm, the torso or a leg. Make sure there is no skin-to-skin contact.
- Place a small cushion between the knees and ankles before tying them together. This prevents painful joints.
- Let the sub inhale thoroughly before putting foil around the torso. This prevents that there is not enough freedom of movement to breathe.
- Always leave pieces of skin free to breathe and to monitor the skin color.
- Always wrap the foil diagonally (not horizontally) around the torso.
- First put foil around the upper body. Then let the sub lie down to wrap the legs. Conversely, there is a danger of falling over.
- If you also want to wrap the head, always do it last. This way the sub can continue to communicate as long as possible. Always clear the head first. ALWAYS LEAVE SPACE TO BREATHE!
- If you cut the foil away (with the safety scissors) try to put your hand between the foil and the skin of the sub, as extra protection.
- Keep communicating. Discuss beforehand what you will do once the sub is wrapped and once that is done, keep asking how the sub is doing. Be alert for anxiety attacks, overheating and dehydration.
- If you are a beginner, start with small pieces and not immediately with a full body mummification.
- Never pull too hard on the material. This will make it too tight.
- Never leave the sub alone! Not even for a moment. Never!
- Get a blanket and a bottle of water ready. And some sugar (energy drink, chocolate). Hold the sub tight and be sweet afterwards.
- Be extremely careful with the neck. Rather avoid this part of the body.
- Immediately remove all material if the sub develops blue lips, fingertips or toes, starts coughing or gagging, becomes dizzy, sweats heavily, becomes pale or red, starts breathing quickly, shakes, cannot speak clearly. Use your common sense!
