Electro sex – shocking?

The average bedroom contains one or more sex toys. But some find the average vibrator or bondage rope not hot enough. They use electro stimulation for erotic purposes. We did some research on how you can safely use electro sex to turn things on.

What is it

Erotic electro stimulation (or e-stim, electro sex) is a form of sex between people in which electrical stimulation is applied by little shocks on nerves of body parts like the genitals. Electro sex is considered a form of BDSM, that is about power exchange, sadism, masochism and pain play. But electronic stimulation can also be used in a soft and erotic manner to turn each other on.

Safety first

Applying electronic shocks, no matter how small, can in some cases be dangerous and even lethal. And you can get little burn marks from it. That can be prevented by using lube like aloë vera gel.

Even at low amperage and voltages there is a risk of arrhythmia. And this could lead to a cardiac arrest. People carrying a pacemaker should most definately do this. And to be absolutely safe, avoid placing electrodes in such a way that current could travel through the chest.

If you are new to this form of sex, don’t go and try to make your own, but rather buy yourself a starters kit. And for f*cks sake: RTFM!

For electro sex, you’d need some kind of power source that can be attached to electrodes.

History

Although the first forms of electro sex are as old as the invention of electricity (in 740 there appear to have been a couple of people who experimented with it), it really took of in the ’50s. You had these passive muscle trainers to exercise the abs and glutes.

In the 70s some people found out that when you de-attached speaker wires, you could get shocks at the beat of the music. Nowadays there are sex toys that can be attached to your MP3 player and there are even websites that offer music for sexual stimulation.

Power sources

In order to be able to apply electric shocks, you’f need a power source. If you have no or little knowledge of electricity, don’t start DIY-ing with current. There are numbers of examples of people that ended at the cemetery because of that. So don’t demolish your DVD player or some old electronic device for this purpose. Especially because there are some fine devices readily available.

There are two kinds: analogue and digital. Both have a box with some electrodes. The box contains the power source that could also be battery driven or rechargeable. Almost all devices have adjustable power and some have different programs. Some come with a remote control.

Electrodes

The electrodes are things that can be applied to the skin of inserted into the body. These could be cock rings, anal or vaginal plugs, or electrodes to be attached to the skin. Some electrodes are made of metal, but some are made of conductive silicone. There are nipple and breast electrodes available, but we do not recommend them, as mentioned above.

Lubricants

To properly conduct electronic shocks, you need a lube. We recommend water based lube. Don’t be short of lube, because you risk burn wounds. Water based lube can dry out easily, so reapply every now and then.
