I very much looked forward to this vibrating cock ring. Imagine the advantages of a cock ring and a vibrator in one. I was totally down. The Doc Johnson is a reputable brand and – let’s be honest – this is not exactly a cheap toy. So my expectations where high. But can this toy live up to my expectations? Well, yes and no.
What is the OptiMALE Vibrating C-Ring?
OptiMALE is a brand of Doc Johnson. This American brand exists since 1976. They are the inventor or the Rabbit, that became famous in the TV series ‘Sex and the City’. But they are also the company behind the Pocket Rocket and the inventor of the Vac-u-Lock. All iconic sex toys.
The OptiMALE Vibrating C-Ring is a silicone ring that goes around the penis. The ring cuts of the blood circulation a bit. That will prevent the blood from running out of the penis, which will make the erection harder and last longer. The ring has bulb that contains a bullet vibrator. The intention is that the bulb will slide against the labia and clitoris when you have penis-in-vagina sex, causing extra stimulation. But also the wearer can, according to Doc Johnson’s website, experience the vibrations. The two knobs at the ring are designed for this goal.
The vibrator can be charged easy and fast and it is fully waterproof. In short: a promising toy!
Unboxing
According to the package, this C-Ring is chosen by Cosmopolitan as the best ‘couples toy’. And that is a fact. Admittedly, it was in 2016 already, but anyway. The C-Ring comes in a decent box with a window, so you can see what you’ve bought. You can open the box like a book.

When you take out the ring, you can lift a piece of carton. Below, there is a charging cable, a storage bag and a manual. That’s how it’s done!

The C-Ring is made of silicone. It feels soft and is a little flexible. Fortunately, not too much, because it is supposed to cut of the blood circulation. The inside diameter is 3 centimeter. That should be sufficient for every person with an average penis size.
The C-Ring was already charged and ready for use straight out of the box. When the battery is completely dead, it takes little over 45 minutes to charge and when it is fully charged you can use it for 1.5 hours.
On the top of the bulb is a little button. Push the button and the bullet will start to vibrate. Every time you touch it, you will switch to the next setting. When you press the button for three seconds, the vibrator will turn off. There are seven settings: three continuous and four patterns. When you come at the last setting and you push the button again, you will return to the first setting again.
The ‘test drive’
I (man) tested this OptiMALE C-Ring together with my partner (female). Before we took this baby for a spin, we did a little ‘dry run’ to see how it works. The first position is a soft buzzing vibration. ‘Hmmm, ok, that can be better’. I pushed the button again and it appeared nothing had happened. But I found out that there is just very little difference between the first and second setting. The third setting was a bit harder, but still a bit ‘buzzing’ and not a very deep vibration. But hey, what can you expect from a bullet vibrator, right?
And now those patterns. How do you explain patterns? Well, the first pattern gives short buzzes (‘bzz … bzz) and the second does exactly the same but just a little faster (bzz bzz bzz). The third pattern changes from short to longer buzzes (bzz bzz bzzzzz). The last pattern starts slow and than slowly builds up continuously to fast (bzzzZZZ … bzzzZZZ).
You can put on the C-Ring when the penis is still flaccid, or when you already have an erection. In both cases I suggest you add a little water bsed lube around the ring. Not only will it help you put the ring on, but it will make it easier to adjust it during use, if necessary.
You can put on the ring in two directions. Most obvious is to let the bulb point at the head of your penis. When you turn it in the other direction, the vibrating part will touch your balls. That can be pleasurable too, if you’re into that.
When I had put on the C-Ring and I turned it on, I felt almost nothing. That was a bit disappointing. I had hoped that the vibrations would be noticeable and that they would perhaps even resonate in my penis. Just imagine how that would feel if my penis would become a vibrator. How great would that be for my partner? But no, unfortunately.
Anyway, I did have the advantage of a cock ring. It fitted great and was very pleasurable. I am not sure if it stayed harder longer, but I give it the benefit of the doubt. I can’t tell you how it would fit if you have a small or a very big penis.
Whether or not your partner will feel anything, depends very much of the position. When you like hard thrusting movements, this C-Ring has very little added value. You will only feel the vibrations when the penis is entirely in, so if you withdraw your partner won’t feel a thing. We even experienced that the bulb sometimes poked if you make a wrong movement. In doggy style or spooning, we didn’t feel much added value either.
You just have to choose your positions. In fact, this device works best when you apply Coital Allignment Technique (CAT): Positions that don’t involve thrusting but a more rubbing movement. For example in missionary position or cow-girl (woman on top). The latter has the advantage that you can reach the button much easier to adjust the vibrations. In these positions, the C-Ring adds something to the experience.
I can recommend using some water based lube on the bulb as well, so it will feel more comfortable for your partner.
And then for the two knobs at the ring. They are supposed to add to the experience for the male wearer, but I didn’t feel a thing. They do however help when you want to adjust the position of the ring around the penis.
Conclusion
This cock ring is made of a pleasant material, that fits very comfortable, while still doing its work (cut of the circulation). The vibrations are not very strong and can only be experienced by the person with the vagina in some positions. The OptiMALE Vibrating C-Ring is recommended if you don’t like deep vibrations and if you enjoy rubbing (CAT) more than thrusting.
