Cala Azul is a relatively new brand inspired by the holiday island of Ibiza. You could say that this brand’s range consists of a number of ‘essentials’; sex toys that everyone should have at least one of in their bedside table. A while ago, I reviewed Cala Azul’s Maria Wand Vibrator. But so it also comes with a vibrating penis ring. Whether I wanted to review that one? Of course!
What is the Cala Azul Jose?
Well, so Jose is a vibrating penis ring. In this case, it is a ring made of elastic silicone with a thickening on top that can vibrate.
A penis ring like this one, is meant to be put around the penis and then slide it down as far as possible (towards the scrotum). It is best to do this when the penis is not yet (completely) erect. Optionally, you can also put some lubricant on the ring so that you can move it around more easily. This is handy if you want to change positions, for instance. These kinds of cock rings slightly constrict the blood flow of the penis. This not only makes the erection harder, but also makes it stay erect longer. So they are ideal if you may have issues with a (temporarily) less hard penis during sex. Moreover, the penis is also more sensitive when using a cock ring, so your orgasm can be more intense.
You can position the vibrating part so that it hits your partner’s clitoris during Penis-in-Vagina sex. As such, this is a toy that can benefit both parties. But nothing stops you from using the Jose solo.
Like all other toys from Cala Azul, the Jose penis ring is beautifully blue and white.

Unboxing
The Cal Azul Jose comes in a fresh cardboard tube with a picture of the penis ring and some explanation of its contents. What I like is that you can use the tube to store the toy in. As with Cala Azul’s other products, the Jose also ‘stands’ in the cap. The charging cord is also hidden in the cap.
The Cala Azul products all come without a manual. The manual is on the brand’s website. No problem in itself, but that website is rather hard (or rather: not) to find. Of course, the web address is printed on the packaging, but should you not want to use it to store the toy, you are on your own.
Now, operating the Cala Azul Jose is not really ‘rocket science’. There is only one button on it. It doesn’t get any more difficult.
The test drive
What immediately stands out about the Cala Azul Jose is that the thing is really featherweight. The material feels soft and the ring is tight, yet elastic enough to fit five fingers inside.
From the box, the battery is already charged, so you can start using it right away. Pressing and holding the only button on it for a few seconds turns the Jose on (a blue light comes on). By pressing the button again, it starts vibrating. Each time you press, you move to the next mode. There is no remote control included, so to change modes during sex, you’ll have to find the little button.
Because the ring is so flexible, it is quite easy to put it on. I always use some water-based lubricant, because then you can move the ring around a bit easier. This is especially handy during sex, when you change positions (for example, from missionary to ‘doggy style’), so you want the vibrations on the other side for your partner.
The ring is wonderfully tight yet comfortable. I think it will fit penises of lots of different thicknesses, precisely because it is so flexible.
But then the vibrations. My partner (wife) and I (husband) found these somewhat disappointing. They are mainly felt at the front of the ring. As a result, they can hardly be felt in the penis at all while wearing. Nor do they resonate in the penis (the penis itself does not vibrate with it). Only in certain positions, such as the one where she is on top, the vibrations are somewhat noticeable for her.
Also, operating the little button during sex is not easy and even a bit of a hassle. Since the ring was between us during sex, it was quite a fiddle to get it into a different vibration mode. A bigger button or a remote control would have been very handy.
Cleaning
Because The Cala Azul Jose is fully waterproof, you can easily clean it under the tap. Do that especially before the first time and after every time you have used it. Afterwards, dry it off with a cloth and you can store it back in its case.
Conclusion
The Cala Azul Jose vibrating penis ring is a toy with a very nice design. As a penis ring, it worked fine, but the vibrations are too weak for us. We prefer deeper and stronger vibrations. If you like more shallow vibrations, this is a fine toy for you.
