Bondage is a captivating form of sex. It is exiting to get tied up and fully surrender to your partner. And for that partner it is thrilling to completely have you in his or her power. In this article, we won’t discuss the dos & don’ts, safewords, safety, positions, sub drops, or any other related information. Below, we will only discuss materials: things you can use to restrain each other. And just to inspire you.
Special bondage products
Cuffs
Let’s start with the obvious. There is a complete industry out there that make the most beautiful gear to restrain your love. You may assume that these products are safe and big fun to use. There is a complete spectrum of cuffs out there, for wrists and ankles. Some are made of leather, others from soft materials like rubber, or rather of metal. When you are going to buy cuffs, pay less attention to the way you have to fasten the cuffs, but more to the way you can untie them. During bondage play, it can be extremely erotic to tie the cuffs buckle by buckle and to reduce freedom of action. But if the person who is tied down (for whatever reason) wants to stop, it is a lot less fun if you are busy for hours uncuffing. Or, that you have lost the key to the cuffs.
Although leather and metal are great materials, we are personally a big fan of Velcro. Bondage sets with Velcro are cheap, very easy to strap, absolutely impossible for the tied up one to release, but in case of emergency they can be freed in like 2 seconds. Above that, they are made of soft material and can be cleaned in the washing machine.
When you don’t like to be trapped, satin is a great option. It is soft, subtle and erotic, met easy to remove (often even for the one in ‘chains’). It’s more the idea of being restrained that counts, in stead of being deprived of all freedom to move. Satin is also a great material to blindfold someone with. .
The more experienced bondage lovers, could go for spreader bars ), collards, leather or metal harnesses, gags, (nipple)clamps and masks.
Rope
Bondage gets even more exciting with the right rope. There are lots of different types of rope available, made from different materials, in different lengths and colors. A little less known is bondage tape. This is tape that can be used as blindfold, gag, cuffs, and for wrapping someone (mummify). You don’t have to be a rope artist to use tape effectively. Just follow your instincts. The tape is soft but very strong, it doesn’t stick to the skin and it doesn’t get entangled. That’s why you can reuse it. A variation to this is bondage bandage. This can be used to bandage hands, legs, arms and other body parts. The great thing with bandage is that it is soft, comfortable and latex free. Most bandages are elastic up to 7 meters and it doesn’t stick.
The Do it Yourself shop
It wasn’t for nothing that Anastasia went shopping in the hardware store for Christian Grey.
Let’s make you a shopping list:
- Rope: Some ropes can cut in the skin. Although that might be the whole idea, sometimes it’s just better when it doesn’t.
- Washing line: This is more rigid and harder to tie, but it may work.
- Curtain rope: This is the kind of rope that is used to open and close curtains. It is often made from soft velvet and is nice and heavy.
- Tape: All problems in the world can be solved with whisky or Duct Tape. Duct Tape is a DiY adhesive tape that is extremely strong. Still, it is very easy to use because you can tear it off. Taping someone with Duct Tape can be extremely erotic. Unfortunately, it is also rather sticky. A great alternative is isolation tape. You will find that on the electricity department of the DiY store. It is used to isolate electrical wires. This is a non-adhesive mildly elastic tape (and is available in many colors).
- Chains: Chains are a department in its own. They feel cold (especially in the beginning), rattle nicely, and they leave impressive marks in the skin. Don’t forget to buy some carabiners when you’re at it, to lock the chains.
- Clothes pins: These can be used as (nipple) clamps. You can also tie them together (through the whole of the metal spiral). That way you can rip them off in one movement. A rigid alternative is the alligator clip.
Just browse in your favorite DiY shop and let the products inspire you. Think outside of the box.
Clothes
We, like no one else, understand that you don’t want to go around carrying a suitcase full of bondage gear. Especially not on your first date. Consider this: there is one thing that you always have at hand, and that is your clothes. You might think that clothes have to come off, there are some really neat things you can do with your clothes. Get inspired with this article we wrote on sexy things you can do with clothing.
Just think what it will do to your partner’s freedom of movement, when you pull their pants down, but don’t take it off. Or a sweater that you will take off, but leave around the wrists and or face. Use your neck tie as blindfold, your belt as cuffs, a bra to tie the feet together, …
