Anal beads: how to choose the right ones?

  • Sex & stuff
  • Sex toys

Anal beads, anus balls, Thai balls or anal beads (not to be confused with Ben Wa balls) used to be unhygienic things, but the development has not stopped. How do you choose the right one and what should you pay attention to?

Not comparable

The anus beads ‘dfrom a few years ago were really just dirty, unsanitary things. In general, they were cheap hard plastic balls with a hole in them. A cotton string ran through the holes. You couldn’t get those things clean after use. The string became gross and the holes in the balls were a source of accumulated bacteria and dirt. In addition, those balls were made of acrylic: a hard type of plastic with a hard burr on the edge where the half balls were fused together during the production process. To be able to use them safely, you first had to cut that edge off with a sharp knife and then sand it down a bit. And after use, you’d better throw them away, because they were not intended for boiling in water or soaking in chlorine.

Today’s anus beads are no longer comparable to those of a few years ago. They are made of better material and therefore feel much more pleasant. But perhaps more importantly: they have become a lot more hygienic.

Choose the right anus beads

If you want to buy anus beads, you actually have to pay attention to two things: the size and the material.

beads
The right size

If you’ve never experienced anal penetration, anal beads may not be the right toy to start with. Try a finger with some lubricant first. If you like anal penetration, then anus beads can be a nice addition.

Anus balls come in many different sizes. Some start with a small ball and each subsequent ball is a bit bigger, like this one. Others come in different sizes.

For beginners, we recommend anus balls that are a bit smaller, or that start small and keep getting bigger.

The right material

The older type of anus beads (those with hard balls on a cotton string) you simply should not take, for the above reasons of hygiene. Moreover, they are very unpleasant to insert because of the hard edges. Also, don’t take jelly balls, as they contain plasticizers (and they are downright bad for you).

It is best to take anus beads that are made in one piece (so without a string). These kind of anus beads are usually made of rubber or silicone. These anus beads feel pleasant, are soft and (with a little lubricant) easy to insert. These kind of anus beads are easy to clean by rinsing them under warm water and mild soap. It is even better to use a special sex toy cleaner.

Glass and metal anus beads are harder and feel cold by themselves. But you can also keep them under a hot tap to warm them up. This way you can play with the temperature. These toys are even easier to clean because you can simply put them in the dishwasher.

How to use anal beads?

If you made the right choice, don’t forget the lube. If you bought silicone balls, use a water-based lubricant. Put some lubricant on all balls (not just the first one) and apply some to your anus as well.

If you want to share the anal beads with your partner, you can consider putting a condom around them. You do not have to clean the balls in between to prevent infections, because you can then simply change the condom.

Before the first use, we recommend that you inspect the balls carefully. Are there no cracks, edges or holes? Also clean them well before the first use. It may still contain chemicals from the manufacturing process.

It’s always a good idea to use the balls solo the first time. This way you can get used to the feeling at your own pace.

As with all anal sex, getting a cop aroused first is a must. Your muscles will be more relaxed. If you are not completely comfortable, your sphincters will be tense and penetration can become painful.

Inserting and wearing anal beads is not necessarily exciting in itself. With anus balls, the point is that you take them out one by one the moment you (almost) come. If you feel them sliding past your sphincter at that moment, it can add to your pleasure.

Insert the balls slowly. First one. Then wait a while. Then the next. If it doesn’t feel comfortable, use more lube or stop. Once they’re all in, move on to stimulating yourself in other ways (read: oral, hand job, or fucking). When you are about to cum, take the balls out at your desired pace. Some people like it when you take the balls out slowly, others like it when you do it a little faster. Experiment with this to see what is most comfortable for you.

Anus beads can be used in addition to solo sex (along with other sex toys), but they are also ideal for use with a partner. It is exciting to introduce them to your partner. Communicate well with each other to determine if it is time to insert (or take out) the next ball. It may be obvious, but anal beads are also, or perhaps especially, very pleasant for men to wear. They stimulate the prostate and thereby increase pleasure.

Don’t be fooled by what you see in porn movies. For the visual effect, large balls are used that go in or out of the anus with force. That can be quite painful in real life, though.

Also make sure that the bacteria from the anus do not enter the vagina or the urethra of the woman. That can cause nasty infections.
