If you are planning to buy a sex toy why would you consider a glass dildo? We recently got that question from one of our readers. Well, for a lot of reasons, actually!
Esthetic
In the first place, a glass dildo is beautiful. Of course you cannot argue about taste, but let’s face it? What could be nicer to have on your bedside table: a flesh-colored plastic fake dick, or a work of art, both in shape and color?
Glass dildos are all small works of art, with beautiful shapes and colors. An unsuspecting visitor to your bedroom might not even notice that it is a sex toy at first.
So you also make a statement with a glass sex toy: No cheap sex for you. You are worth more. You like eroticism. No porn for you but porna. Sex is nice, but appearances really count. And you are right.
Convenience, maintenance, hygiene and safety
If you’ve bought a sex toy, you don’t want to spend hours on maintenance. It must be practical and easy to clean. You have the thing for fun and not for the work before and after.
A glass sex toy is perfect in that case. Most glass dildos are made from pyrex. This material is widely used from medical instruments to unbreakable household material (oven dishes, for example). This material is not porous and therefore cannot absorb moisture. This also makes them incredibly easy to maintain. Just under the hot tap, add a mild antibacterial soap and you’re done. Or, even easier, just put it in the dishwasher!
But glass, is that a safe? After all, you put it in your most intimate and vulnerable body part. Unlike jelly toys (which contain carcinogenic plasticizers), pyrex is extremely safe in that respect. Even if you have an allergy to rubber, latex or other plastics, you can tolerate glass sex toys well.
If you want to use your sex toy with someone else, keep it on glass! Since the surface is non-porous, it will not absorb moisture from your partner. This makes a glass dildo particularly hygienic. It is also almost impossible to scratch pyrex.
And you can use any type of lube.
Warmth
Another great thing about pyrex is that it can retain heat. Although a glass dildo may feel a bit cold at first (and that can be nice in itself), you can easily heat the dildo by, for example, holding it under a hot tap. It may not look like a real penis, but the feeling of a heated glass dildo reminds you of the warmth of a partner. And that heat retains a glass dildo for the entire session. Or cool it down with ice water for a very nice tingle.
You will also need very little lubricant. Much less than with a plastic one. That way it doesn’t become a sticky gummy mess. It saves lubricant and you do not have to add extra lubricant halfway through.
Costs?
Glass dildos are already for sale for an amount somewhere between € 20 and € 65. That’s not extremely expensive, but as with anything you can make it as expensive as you want. But also consider it from an investment point of view. A glass dildo is extremely durable. They do not discolour, stay beautiful for a long time and do not break. You could enjoy it for a lifetime.
In almost every respect, the glass dildo therefore beats its plastic brother. They scratch, discolour, require maintenance, are more difficult to clean and (in the case of jelly) can be downright unhealthy. And its durability makes it the best investment.
